Therapy for Complex Trauma

Complex trauma therapy is designed to help you process and recover from the psychological, social, and emotional impacts of prolonged trauma exposure.

What to Expect in Trauma Therapy

Complex trauma (also known as CPTSD) may develop through ongoing relational wounding, emotional neglect, or repeated experiences of harm, usually during childhood. Complex trauma interferes with a child's socio-emotional development, leading to persistent difficulties trusting others as well as understanding and relating to oneself across the lifespan. People with complex trauma may experience difficulty managing emotions, dissociation from physical sensations, and/or unexplained pain and chronic health conditions. They may also experience a profound sense of shame and worthlessness.

My approach to working with complex trauma is gentle and collaborative, honouring your nervous system's cues and moving at your pace. As the foundation of our work, we'll focus on building a trusting relationship that offers you a new experience of care and healing. I'll offer a consistent, attuned presence to help you feel seen and known as we work toward creating a secure attachment relationship. As we establish this foundation, we may draw upon other therapeutic modalities depending upon your needs. For example, we may explore somatic therapy practices to enhance your connection with your body and establish more safety and groundedness within yourself. We'll regularly check-in about the process and use flexibility to discover what works best for your healing. Together, we'll reclaim the parts of your life that have been impacted by trauma.
