What about Insurance Coverage?
Most extended health plans cover counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW). Please check your plan for details of your coverage. I will provide a receipt for each session that you may submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Additionally, sessions can be claimed as a medical expense on your taxes. Fees should be earmarked as "Clinical Social Work Services".
Why Choose a Registered Clinical Social Worker?
The term Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) is a protected title governed by the BC College of Social Workers. RCSWs are licensed to provide specialized mental health services to individuals, children, couples, and families. We view mental health through a holistic and contextual lens, recognizing that a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are deeply connected to their relationships, environment, and life experiences.
To earn and maintain the RCSW designation, clinicians must:
-
Hold a Master’s degree in Social Work with advanced coursework in psychology and human development
-
Complete a minimum of 3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice after graduation
-
Pass a clinical board examination
-
Participate in ongoing professional development
-
Adhere to the BCCSW’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
These rigorous requirements help ensure a high level of clinical training and professional accountability.
