Why Choose a Registered Clinical Social Worker?

The term Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) is a protected title governed by the BC College of Social Workers. RCSWs are licensed to provide specialized mental health services to individuals, children, couples, and families. We view mental health through a holistic and contextual lens, recognizing that a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are deeply connected to their relationships, environment, and life experiences.

To earn and maintain the RCSW designation, clinicians must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree in Social Work with advanced coursework in psychology and human development

  • Complete a minimum of 3,000 hours of supervised clinical practice after graduation

  • Pass a clinical board examination

  • Participate in ongoing professional development

  • Adhere to the BCCSW’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice

These rigorous requirements help ensure a high level of clinical training and professional accountability.
